Bromley GP Alliance is committed to operating responsibly and sustainably, with the future of our planet in mind. Our internal BGreenPA strategy outlines how we will reduce our environmental impact and work towards Net Zero operations.
BGPA adopt this strategy because environmental sustainability is directly connected to public health. As a healthcare organisation, BGPA has a responsibility to minimise our contribution to climate change and to lead by example within the local health system. Small, consistent actions across our sites can collectively make a difference.
The strategy includes several key areas of focus. Education is central to our approach, ensuring all staff have access to the knowledge needed to make informed, sustainable choices. We also carry out regular environmental audits which identify strengths, areas for improvement and maintain accountability. Recycling is another important element as BGPA ensures that all waste and recycling are managed carefully and measures are in place to reduce waste where possible. Transport choices play a significant role in reducing emissions. BGPA’s fleet contains low emission vehicles, helping to reduce the environmental impact of essential business travel. We also encourage all staff to use public transport instead of their own cars to get to work, helping to reduce individuals’ emissions. Hybrid working is also part of our BGreenPA strategy. By working from home, if their role allows, staff can lower their weekly emissions by limiting travel into work. This supports carbon reduction but also improves staff wellbeing.
Overall, the BGreenPA policy is designed to empower staff, reduce our environmental footprint and embed sustainability into everyday operations. It reflects our commitment to responsible practice and our belief that every member of staff can contribute to a greener, healthier future.
BGPA also aligns with the South East London ICB Green Plan, which sets out priorities for reducing the environmental impact of healthcare across the region. This plan ensures that our efforts contribute to a coordinated approach and allows us to meet NHS‑wide Net Zero commitments. By aligning with the ICB’s strategy, we strengthen our impact and play an active role in creating a more sustainable health system.
