BGPA are delighted to share that the Bromley Homeless Health Project has won Silver in the Working Together category at the iESE Public Sector Transformation Awards 2024. This award follows on from the recent Affordable Housing Awards accolade, where Bromley Homeless won Homelessness Project of the Year.
Bromley GP Alliance are proud to be partnered with Bromley Homeless to assist the charity in providing an on-site health team to assess and support those in need of medical care and assistance. Funded by One Bromley partners, they offer both appointment and walk-in advice to many that may not have immediate access to a GP, to provide high quality care to the vulnerable in the borough. Clients can be seen by our Nurse Practitioner Sarah Jackson, where they can ask any questions surrounding their health, receive vaccinations, be referred on to follow up GP care and be given prescriptions if they require them. Having this available to clients is vitally important to the wellbeing of the Bromley community and is appreciated by many across the area. Having been operational for just over a year, the Bromley Homeless Health Project continues to go from strength to strength, with these recent awards highlighting the incredible work that goes in to provide shelter, safety and high quality care to those in need.
Nurse Practitioner Sarah Jackson: “It was a great evening, we had just celebrated our one year anniversary for the project so winning this award was quite timely. Lots of big projects were nominated amongst our small, niche project so to win Silver was a huge shock, we weren’t expecting it at all! I’d like to thank Bronwyn Ward, the Project Officer for Public Health who entered us. It was a large detailed nomination process so a big thanks to Bronwyn for the time taken to nominate us. Despite being a year in, we are still fairly new, so to win Silver at this stage shows that we’ve made great progress over the last 12 months. As the project grows, we can enter again and if the panel sees a high level of progression and a clear view of the difference we continue to make, we might have a chance at the Gold award next time.
We are deeply passionate about the project and I think you need to have that drive to want to make a difference and myself and Matt Gray’s (Care Coordinator) is only getting larger each month. The great thing is that lots of people also share our passion and interest and ask about how the project is going. We make other people as passionate as we are and they tend to want to get involved as well. Of course none of this would be possible without the help of the Bromley Homeless Charity and we are so grateful for their support we get.
Moving forwards we hope we can start more frequent outreach work in order to reach more clients for the service we provide. We are hoping to set up a base in Orpington, so we can get out there, get some more recognition and help spread the word about the project, but also educate people about homelessness and the issues surrounding it. It’s nice to also get recognition from local councillors and MPs, who, with their platforms, can help us grow further.”
